Plunging headfirst into history, director Terry Gilliam fearlessly brings the logic of children’s fairy tales to bear as he navigates through myth and legend in a bizarre, ingenious retelling of THE WIZARD OF OZ. A boy and six good natured little persons careen through time twisting interactions with Napoleon, Robin Hood, and Agamemnon, among others, with a map the little people stole from their employer, the Supreme Being. But their intention is to rob their way through the past, which does not make their boss happy. Meanwhile, Evil is after the map in order to become the Supreme Being himself. The result is an extraordinarily visual extravaganza that overflows with Gilliam’s ecstatic vision. The film is shot from a child’s viewpoint, both through the character of Kevin and the placement of the camera. One of the morals of this thoroughly enjoyable, charming fantasy is that heroes aren’t always all they’re cracked up to be. Fun special effects and great supporting performances abound, including terrific turns by Ian Holm, John Cleese, Ralph Richardson, and especially David Warner as Evil.

William Stryker (Cox) who plans to stop all mutants, takes over the school, causing Wolverine and his team of mutants to go into hiding. Stryker has managed to capture Xavier (Stewart) and will use him to create another version of cerebro. Wolverine and the team must now team up with their enemy, Magneto to stop Stryker before it’s too late.

Meet Bill (Aaron Eckhart) a doormat if there ever was one. L: Change The World was the opening night attraction at the 2008 Udine Far East Film Festival and was a major box office success in Japan.
When Billy Peltzer is given a small creature called a Mogwai by his father, he is unaware of the carnage he is about to encounter. There is a huge responsibility in looking after Gizmo as there are certain rules which must be followed. The Mogwai must be kept away from bright light, never made wet and never, ever be fed after midnight. When an accident occurs involving Gizmo and water, the next evolution stage of the Mogwai appears, and it isn’t nice at all.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch
Where the original Gremlins was a horror film spiked with comedy, Gremlins 2: The New Batch is essentially a black comedy, with a couple of horrifying touches. As the film starts, the fantastical trinket shop in Chinatown, which sold the Mogwai in the first film, is demolished by a crazed multi-media businessman called Daniel Clamp (John Glover). The heroes from the first movie, Billy (Zach Galligan) and Kate (Phoebe Cates), happen to work for Clamp in his huge high-rise. They find the Mogwai within Clamp’s building, but not before he has accidentally spawned legions of mischievous, lizard-like Gremlins. Soon, the Gremlins are wreaking havoc throughout the building. In the original film, their misdeeds were violent, but here they’re also goofy and satirical. Director Joe Dante has filled the film with quick verbal and visual jokes, which, for many, makes Gremlins 2: The New Batch a satire and inversion of the typical horror film.
Model and rising pop star Yumiko Shaku stars as Princess Yuki in this thrilling Japanese martial arts actioner based on comic book characters created by Kazuo Koike and Kazuo Kamimura. Yuki is the last surviving royal of the House of Takemikazuchi, who arrive in a futuristic post-apocalyptic isolationist world where they use their skills as former Mikado guards to become hired assassins. Essayist and actor Hideaki Ito plays Takashi, leader of the rebel movement, who offers Yuki a chance at revenge and perhaps love. Theater veteran Yoichi Humata is excellent in the key role of the wise old sage Kuka, who gives Yuki information that changes her life and her destiny. And Kyusaku Shimada is appropriately villainous as Byakurai, who has a dangerous connection to Yuki. With THE PRINCESS BLADE, Shinsuke Sato has crafted an impressive feature-film directorial debut, with able assistance from action director Donnie Chen and special effects master Shinji Higuchi. The settings of many of the fight scenes are cast in gloomy grayness and foggy shadows. Taro Kawazu’s cinematography beautifully matches the mood of this classic tale of good versus evil.
